Our Prospecteur 16 has the lines of the well-known Chestnut Prospector. Ideal for canoeists who want the versatility and capacity of the Prospector shape for day tripping and week-long adventures. The rugged T-Formex hull is great for those who enjoy paddling whitewater, or who just want a super tough canoe for everyday usage.
Stability, easy tracking, and good maneuverability in rapids are what makes this canoe such a classic. This canoe responds well to the Solo Paddler yet has ample volume for the young family, or 2 adventurous paddlers with a pile of gear.

When compared to other canoe materials,
T-formex is VERY Heavy Duty and provides much more durbility for many more years.
In our experience T-formex slides over shallow rocky areas with much less damage AND retains its shape better than other canoes.

Wood gunwales are a special-order option. Caution: you need to loosen screws in the wood trim during Winter months to avoid cracking. Cold temps are of no concern with the standard vinyl gunwales.

Center Seat, Kneeling Thwart, Kevlar Skid Plates, Deep Dished Cherry Yoke, SuperSeat Backrests, Seat Cushions, Thwart Bag, Bow Bag, Yoke Pad, Scotty Fishing Rod Holders, and the Side Mount Motor Bracket are available in stock options for the Prospecteur.
Our comfortable SuperSeat backrest option provides great support while you paddle, motor or fish, they can face either direction, and easily removed for transport.
Although we have a great selection right now, our suppliers have told us supplies will be tight for the 2026 season. Demand for kayak and canoe related items is at an all time high. Due to complications, supply chain issues and also unprecedented demand, many of our suppliers are taking longer to fill our orders.

We usually ship in stock orders within a few days. Occasionally, we may send items direct from the manufacturer which may take longer. If you have concerns about getting your order by a certain date, proper fit or sizing it would be best to place your order by phone so you can ask us your question.

Boats that we ship to you MUST be signed for. Any shipping prices on our website are only an estimate; we will confirm actual prices with you via email once we have your order/address.
NOTE; We recommend that you completely unwrap and inspect the boat from one end to the other, making note on the shipping document of any tears in the packaging and/or damage. By signing for it you are agreeing with the shipping company that your boat has been received in good condition.
Once a boat is shipped it is yours. You are responsible to inspect the entire boat and note any damage on the shipping document. We are not trying to be harsh here but simply blunt as to the shipping company's rules.
