Universal Rudder kit for kayaks

- Inventory on the way
Universal Rudder kit -includes Rudder body, with lines to raise and lower the blade, and rudder cables to turn the rudder left or right using the foot pedals and tracks.
Fits most Old Town, Perception, Dagger and many other kayak models that were designed for a rudder option at the factory and have a molded hole at the stern to receive the rudder pin. Other models may need a separate bracket bolted onto the stern which will receive the rudder pin. The rudder pin is the stainless steel shaft that the rudder rotates on.
See our rudder fit list... If your brand and model is not listed, please email us. We have lots of parts in stock for many brands and models, including some that have not been added to our list yet.
We also have Rudder kits for specific models (see our other rudder kit options on this web page.) This Universal Rudder kit has a general design, which we customize, to work on many models and brands.
Many brands such as Jackson and Current Designs no longer provide rudders, or kits. Others like Old Town, Wilderness, Perception and Dagger offer a rudder kit but only for the current version of a model that they build today... which is likely not too helpful for your kayak that is several years old, no longer in production, or been replaced with a newer version.
(Please, let us know your Kayak Brand, Model name, size, year and material when you order.)
We offer 4 general styles for how the Universal Rudder kit will mount on your kayak...
Locking Pin -fits Focus models and the current version of Wilderness Systems Tsunami models. This special rudder pin locks into a hole molded into the stern end of the kayak. A rudder bracket is not required with the locking pin.
Short Pin, with bracket -fits tons of brands and models with 2 nuts molded into the stern end of the kayak. This allows a rudder bracket to be bolted on. The rudder pin passes thru the bracket, a split-ring on the end of the pin keeps it from coming out. Older Wilderness Systems, some Jackson models and lots of others use this style with a rudder bracket.
Long Pin, without bracket -fits tons of brands and models with a hole molded into the stern end of the kayak. The pin of this rudder can accommodate up to 3 inches. This rudder pin passes completely thru the kayak, a split-ring on the bottom end of the pin keeps it from coming back out. A rudder bracket is generally not required with the long pin.
Short Pin, without bracket -fits the Current Design Breeze and Kestrel 140 (poly.) The Short rudder pin passes thru a hole in the stern end of the kayak, a split-ring on the end of the pin keeps it from coming out. The pin of this rudder can accommodate up to 1.5 inches. (Note: the long pin is too long for the special design of these models.)
Necky style, with bracket -fits many Ocean Kayak, Necky and Old Town models with 4 nuts molded into the stern end of the kayak. This allows the required rudder bracket to be bolted on. The rudder is then attached to the bracket included.
Tubing Kit for Rudder Cables, -includes Tubing, P-clips and hardware to install tubing in your kayak, which the cables will run thru. Most newer kayaks are "rudder ready" and already have this tubing installed. Rudder Kits above do Not include the Tubing Kit.
