Rudder body, replacement -Necky, Old Town, Ocean Kayak

 Broke your rudder? -it's often a lost cause to try to find parts to patch up a 20 year old rudder.  Replacing the Rudder Body (complete frame and blade) is often the more realistic route to get you back on the water, it's easy to install, plus costs quite a bit less than a full rudder kit.  A rudder blade won't fit into just any rudder frame, buying these together ensures compatibility.

This Rudder body assembly replaces many of the more recent style Old Town, Necky and Ocean Kayaks ...for solo OR tandem kayak models that normally offer a rudder option at the factory ...AND these models will require a 4-bolt bracket on the back end of the kayak which will hold the rudder.

 If your Ocean Kayak, Necky or Old Town has 4 bolts/nuts molded into the end of the kayak, those require a rudder body that we refer to as the Necky style.  Shortly after Old Town bought Necky and Ocean Kayak they adopted this rudder for use on all the models in each brand at that time.

This Rudder body, replacement includes a rudder frame with pivot block and blade, and new lines to raise or lower the rudder installed on the rudder body.  Normally you would just hook up the cables and lines the same way the old unit was and go paddling!

Necky style rudder body, was used on many recent Ocean Kayak, Old Town and Necky models.  Necky style rudder -these kayaks will have 4 screws in the stern end of the kayak to hold the required rudder bracket.

Necky style rudder blade -vintage, $89.95 -This Blade is for Necky and Ocean Kayak models with the 2nd generation BLACK rudder.  Not the really old silver rudders. This Blade looks similar but is too thick to fit in the recent generation frame. 

Necky Rudder chronology:  the first Necky Rudder was held onto the bracket by a slender metal pin, the frame and the blade were silver (Natural) aluminum.  The next generation Necky Rudder frame and the blade were Black aluminum. The hub on the 2nd gen blade is too thick to fit into the more recent 3rd generation rudder used on Necky, Old Town and Ocean Kayak models.  This more recent rudder is held onto the bracket by a 4-inch 1/4-20 bolt.  The rudder bracket attaches to the end of the kayak with FOUR 10-32 bolts.
